Four years after Barry Hay decided to start a new project besides the Golden Earring, the debut album “Barry Hay’s Flying V Formation” was released in May 2016. You could say that it took a long time, but nothing is less true if you know that this formation consists of DeWolff frontman & guitarist Pablo van de Poel and the musicians Jan Rooymans, Daim de Rijke and Huub van Loon. Not to mention all the activities of Barry Hay as frontman of the most legendary Dutch rock band.
Some songs already existed and had been played live countless times since 2012. The wish to include these and new compositions had been around for some time, but it was not easy to coordinate all agendas. In the summer of 2015 the moment was finally there. With Di-rect bass player Bas van Wageningen as co-producer, Barry Hay’s Flying V Formation started recording at the Basement Studio in The Hague. After the release of the album on May 13, 2016, a first club tour followed in the autumn of 2016.
At the end of August 2016 the biography HAY was published, written by Sander Donkers. In the book Barry and his wife Sandra open a candid book about their past.
In the autumn of 2017 Barry decides to record the song Be My Baby by The Ronettes with his Flying V Formation. JB Meijers (Common Linnets) produces the number. Record label Cloud9 is thrilled to release the song it is officially released at RTL Late Night 7 December 2017. Other promos follow: Giel’s Morning Show on Radio Veronica and tv show Voetbal Inside. The video of the song contains guest appearances by Eva Simons, Beertje van Beers, Tatum Dagelet, Joëlle Witschge, Blonde Tigers, Monique Smit, Tjindara, Danny Vera and tv host Dennis Weening.
In March 2018 another club tour will follow.
